Your zoning ordinance - is it really what you think it is? Would you like to know the impacts - residential units, commercial square feet, vehicle trips, school children, sewer, water usage - if even a portion of your municipality is "built-out" according to your zoning?
County planning staff have introduced an important effort now underway through Westchester 2025, the county's Web-based, long-range land-use policies document. We've begun detailed analyses of existing municipal zoning ordinances using new and innovative GIS-based and Web-based planning tools. We plan on ultimately assessing all 43 of Westchester's zoning ordinances. The analysis of all zoning ordinances will become the basis for a wider "Vision Plan," Westchester 2025's county-wide map of recommended density ranges reflecting your local desires for future development and character balanced upon a variety of regional and intermunicipal issues.
County planning staff is available to explain the unique Westchester 2025 buildout methodology to you and your local officials, and most importantly, get your ideas and input as we begin this innovative procedure. This important process will give you state-of-the-art and affordable tools to better plan for your municipality and together with the county, plan for our region.
